Ski & Sail Romsdal

The fjords offer shelter from the rough weather often experienced along the coast of Norway. In the deep fjordarms of Romsdal we are able to seek out alpine terrain by boat and enjoy relatively stable weather, low temperatures and plenty of precipitation.

The main attraction of Romsdal is its wide variety of ski touring terrain. In these deep fjords, the mountains range from 900 to 1800 metres above sea level, and our guides will always find options here.

Join us for a week onboard the century-old wooden sailing yacht “Framstig”, a history-packed vessel from this part of the country, looking for good snow conditions and great alpine views.

We provide the best and fully certified UIAGM/IFMGA mountain guides.

Your safety is our top priority.

Where is it?

Romsdal is situated in the mid-west of Norway. Starting from the coastal city of Molde, the fjord system stretches deep inwards, separating in two different fjords - Langfjord & Romsdalsfjord.

The abundance and variety of ski touring makes this a destination skiers keep coming back to. A week of ski&sail here only gives you a small taste of the vast territory. Romsdal can be reached by air to Molde Årø airport, or by train to Aandalsnes, from where you will be transported to the vessel.

How does it work?

During the week, the vessel “Framstig” is both your home and your means of transport. Snow conditions will determine whether we need additional car transport to reach our ski touring destinations.

Onboard “Framstig” you will have your own bed with storage for your personal belongings. Asides from other participants, there are mainly two people from Ski & Sail Norway you will have to relate to - the skipper and the mountain guide.

While onboard, it is the skipper’s responsibility to ensure your safety, but also your comfort. The skipper’s focus is on serving you the best experience of Romsdal from a fjord perspective, but also to make sure you are fed tasty, healthy meals after long days in the mountain.

In the mountain, it is the mountain guide you need to relate to. Our mountain guides are fully certified with long experience, and your safety is looked after by the best in the field. It is expected that you listen to and respect the mountain guide’s decision-making.

A week of ski touring may sound like a lot to many - and there is no doubt that it is a tough programme. You are of course free to have resting days onboard “Framstig”, where the crew will take good care of you. The mountain guide will still plan for ski touring every day, with the exception of extreme weather conditions.

Alpine skiing involves considerable risk. Make sure you have read our terms and conditions thoroughly before considering a trip with us.
